Daily Doodle - Spiral Sky

Daily Doodle - Spiral Sky

mixed mediums – decided to experiment a bit. Took one of my drawings, traced it in vector in illustrator, colored it and overlayed it on one of my photographs.

Green River Narrows Whitewater Kayaking - Saluda,NC

DSCN7303.JPG

Note: I do not kayak. Most of these pictures were taken while hiking into the Green River Narrows trail which has become one of my favorites. The round trip hike takes around 2hrs and there’s a good little section to get down into the gorge that’s as close to 90 degrees as you’re gonna get without needing some ropes and harnesses attached. The first 30 minutes hiking back out will make you swear you’ll never do it again … but, it’s magical and gorgeous down there. Completely worth it.

Learn how to hold your breath for a really long time and why David Blaine is an absolutely amazing human being.

“As a magician I try to show things to people that seem impossible. And I think magic, whether I’m holding my breath or shuffling a deck of cards, is pretty simple. It’s practice, it’s training, and it’s – It’s practice, it’s training and experimenting, while pushing through the pain to be the best that I can be. And that’s what magic is to me, so, thank you.”

After watching this talk I have far more of an interest and respect for David Blaine then I did before. I’ve heard great things about his book from Random talks with Kevin Rose and Tim Ferriss and plan to order Mysterious Stranger: A Book of Magic this week. It’s in the speech, it’s in the quote above, it’s now on a sticky note above my desk … plain and simple once of the most inspirational reminders to hear daily “– It’s practice, it’s training and experimenting, while pushing through the pain to be the best that I can be” David Blaine

Redefine what a life well lived looks like.

An idea worth spreading. Help break the cycle, redefine your life and inspire those around you to do the same!

“The reality of the society that we’re in is there are thousands and thousands of people out there leading lives of quiet, screaming desperation, where they work long, hard hours at jobs they hate to enable them to buy things they don’t need to impress people they don’t like.”

Daily Doodle - Love Face, June Bloom #6 & #5

Daily Doodle - Love Face {June bloom 6 - wood plank}

Daily Doodle - June Bloom 5 {wood plank}

The June bloom series is a the best product that came from my recent day job.   Forced to sit at a desk for 8hrs my best form of escape to retain my sanity was either going for a short walk outside or drawing for a “few” minutes.  I was greatly inspired by an amazing artist Amber Hooks that sat next to me.   The longer I kept the office job the harder it was for me to keep sane and the drawing became almost compulsive, I had to draw.  I would start on these ‘flower’ images and totally zone out/in until they were finished and they became the highlight of my day.   I’m very happy that even though I’ve quit the day job the daily urge to take a moment to just doodle has remained and is now part of my daily routine.

The Adventures of Boo - Fear Love Eat

Please note, none of these shots were staged.  I did not put her into poses or add props.  The flowers I had dried outside and I was going out to the car and noticed she had grabbed them off the porch railing.  I grabbed my camera and got a quick round of pictures in before taking the flowers away from her.   I didn’t actually let her eat any of them.

DuPont State Forest in North Carolina

DSCN7166.JPG

Hooker Falls & Cascade Lake

The DuPont State Forest is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains between Hendersonville and Brevard, North Carolina. Its 10,400 acres of forest feature four major waterfalls on the Little River and several on the Grassy Creek.

The original 7600 acre forest was established in 1996 through a generous bargain sale from the DuPont Corporation. In 2000, the Forest was expanded by two property additions, including the spectacular 2200 acre tract in the center of the Forest containing High Falls, Triple Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls

The original property is presently open to hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking (see mapstrail guide and user policies ).

My first Yoga photo shoot!

Client  Three Minute Egg Model  Carrie Carr Photographer  Kiesha Jean

Location . downtown Asheville, North Carolina USA

This was a super fun and inspiring day! I received the job based on a continuing series of photographs documenting the journey of local indie rock band The Enemy Lovers.  Being able to photograph a subject that has changed my life { yoga } in a city that I love { asheville } and get paid to do so, oh man it was a fantastic experience! I was definitely nervous about my first yoga / first real model shoot and grateful to run into some good friends downtown during the day of the shoot that helped ease the nerves.  Also grateful to the friends who offered support and equipment for free prior to the shoot!

I would love to do more location shoots in the areas of Yoga, Music and Kayaking.
