On a particularly rough day this car appeared in front of me. I tuned out the man sitting next to me shouting and had a moment of extreme gratitude for the license plate and whoever chose it. Never in my life did I so need to hear those 4 little words. I hope to pass it on … so, whoever you are looking at this photo … you will be o.k..
This little gem was a few miles from the house I lived in last December and January in Candler, NC. On a very stressed out day with my bank account quickly depleting I went for a drive up in the mountains on Pisgah Hwy to the Blue Ridge Pkwy. On the way back down I noticed the pull off to this park that didn’t look like much been since it was so close to the house I thought I would take a quick looksy. It wasn’t until I was out of the car and near the shelter that I started noticing the rocks. I walked further and with each step saw more and more rock piles. You can’t help but smile when you see them. It’s art in nature built over many years by many individuals. You also can’t help but add to it or pick up and rebuild a fallen pile. It’s a special little place and if your headed up Pisgah Hwy anyways, pull off for a few minutes and check it out and play with some rocks.
DIRECTIONS TO THE ROCK GARDEN
Go west out of Asheville on 19 /23 then turn left on Pisgah Hwy 151 go down about 10 miles and the park is on your left right across from the sign that says you are now entering Pisgah Forest.

Note: I do not kayak. Most of these pictures were taken while hiking into the Green River Narrows trail which has become one of my favorites. The round trip hike takes around 2hrs and there’s a good little section to get down into the gorge that’s as close to 90 degrees as you’re gonna get without needing some ropes and harnesses attached. The first 30 minutes hiking back out will make you swear you’ll never do it again … but, it’s magical and gorgeous down there. Completely worth it.
FAQ What kind of camera do you use? Nikon Coolpix p80, older model of the camera below ($350). Far from professional it works for me. I prefer small compact point and shoot cameras that I can carry with me everywhere, allowing me to focus on the moment not get caught up in settings. Nikon Coolpix P100 10MP Digital SLR 26x Optical Vibration Reduction (VR)
The DuPont State Forest is located in the Blue Ridge Mountains between Hendersonville and Brevard, North Carolina. Its 10,400 acres of forest feature four major waterfalls on the Little River and several on the Grassy Creek.
The original 7600 acre forest was established in 1996 through a generous bargain sale from the DuPont Corporation. In 2000, the Forest was expanded by two property additions, including the spectacular 2200 acre tract in the center of the Forest containing High Falls, Triple Falls, and Bridal Veil Falls
High Falls
The original property is presently open to hunting, fishing, hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking (seemaps, trail guide and user policies ).
Celia & Jim
Jim and Celia are an inspiration for how to enjoy life, people and each other! I met them on the last leg of their two month road trip from Ontario Canada to the deep South and back up! Read about there extremely fun adventures off the beaten path at Celia & Jim’s Rockin’ Roadtrip
This was a super fun and inspiring day! I received the job based on a continuing series of photographs documenting the journey of local indie rock band The Enemy Lovers. Being able to photograph a subject that has changed my life { yoga } in a city that I love { asheville } and get paid to do so, oh man it was a fantastic experience! I was definitely nervous about my first yoga / first real model shoot and grateful to run into some good friends downtown during the day of the shoot that helped ease the nerves. Also grateful to the friends who offered support and equipment for free prior to the shoot!
I would love to do more location shoots in the areas of Yoga, Music and Kayaking.
Done at the super cool and fun California Emporium in West Asheville by Wade Elder.
My tattoos took about twenty minutes. I spent 2 days and quite a few hours at the shop while Chase had his left sleeve finished with all sorts of beautiful shades of blue by the very nice and talented Emily Roberts.
I’ve known that I wanted a tattoo on my right arm right there in blue since I was about 18. What exactly I wanted was in limbo til about a year ago. There was this day and this moment and this series of fantastic events that lead me to get the spiral. Without going into to much detail it’s a reminder to myself that I’m not fucking crazy for living my life the way I do. The minute Wade put the stencil on my arm there was a rush of overwhelming emotion and a sigh of relief that it was finally there. There’s always the question of regret with tattoos … this symbol, this reminder to me, it comes from the happiest most exhilerating soulful spiritual part of my being … I’ll never regret reminding myself of such a thing in such a way.
The decision for the X came back in October after coming out of deep depression when my life fell apart piece by piece by piece. It was the greatest learning and humbling experience I’ve ever had. The X is a reminder of 1 verse from one song by the XX who’s album cover is simply an X. “I think we’re superstars” If you’ve ever read The Alchemist I think the meaning to me would be similar to saying we all have a ‘Personal Legend’ it’s a reminder to follow your heart and to try to be the best person I can be every day.
Love and tattoos A Valentines Day gift that I’m very grateful for. Getting tattooed at the same time was totally fun and beats the hell out of chocolate and flowers.
I saw JJ Grey & Mofro at The Orange Peel in Asheville, NC on Oct. 23, 2010. I had never heard of them before and just wanted to get out of the house. I was invited by a great friend Neil who had an extra ticket and seemed very excited about the show. I listened to a few tracks online before I went but really had no expectations. Funny thing when you don’t expect anything, that tends to be when some magic happens!
JJ Grey & Mofro was hands down one of the very best live shows I have ever seen! EVER! You have never seen such a group of talented musicians have so much fun on stage, the energy is infectious. The crowd … fucking trashed, dancing, singing, nice FUN! After the show I’ve listened to much of the recorded music and I’ll tell you know it does no justice. It’s absolutely nothing like seeing them live. If you ever get the chance to go see them live, do yourself a favor … GO, and have some fun!
